ISLAMABAD, February 22. /Dunyo IA/. An article entitled “Uzbekistan aims to advance constructive initiatives within the Peace Council” has been published in Pakistan’s widely circulated newspaper - “Daily Spokesman”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The newspaper reports that on 17-19 February, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, paid a visit to the United States, where he took part in the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council - a newly established international body conceived as a multilateral platform to advance dialogue and promote the peaceful resolution of pressing global and regional conflicts.
The Peace Council was established in January 2026 on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, where a formal signing ceremony of its founding Charter took place with the participation of heads of state and government, as well as representatives of several founding countries.
“The initiative, put forward at the beginning of the year, received the backing of a number of states, including Uzbekistan, which joined the Council as one of its founding members, thereby reaffirming its commitment to the principles of peaceful diplomacy, multilateral engagement and shared responsibility for maintaining international stability. Uzbekistan’s participation in the establishment of this structure reflects Tashkent’s consistent foreign policy course aimed at advancing dialogue, upholding respect for international law and rejecting the use of force as a means of resolving disputes”, - publication states.
The participation of the President of Uzbekistan in the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council comes amid a marked intensification of Uzbek - American political dialogue in recent months. Over the past six months, high-level contacts between Tashkent and Washington have significantly increased, signalling the emergence of a qualitatively new phase in bilateral relations.
Article states that engagement between Tashkent and Washington has been maintained through various channels, including telephone conversations and cooperation between relevant ministries and agencies. Further evidence of growing mutual trust is reflected in the expansion of economic dialogue and the establishment of new platforms for business cooperation, underscoring a shared interest in deepening practical engagement. In the United States, there is an increasingly consistent perception of Uzbekistan as a reliable, predictable and responsible partner pursuing a balanced and pragmatic foreign policy.
Against the backdrop of intensified political dialogue, Uzbek - American cooperation continues to expand across key areas. This includes engagement in regional security, support for Uzbekistan’s economic reforms, the development of trade and investment ties, as well as the deepening of humanitarian and educational exchanges. Joint projects in the fields of energy, digitalisation, infrastructure development and workforce training are laying a solid foundation for a long-term partnership.
“Thus, participation of the President of Uzbekistan in the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council not only underscores the country’s active role in shaping a new architecture of international dialogue, but also organically complements the positive momentum in Uzbek - American relations. This visit to the United States will undoubtedly contribute to elevating cooperation between Tashkent and Washington to a stable strategic level, in line with the interests of both sides and the broader objectives of strengthening peace and stability in the region and globally”, - “Daily Spokesman” concludes.
