FRANKFURT AM MAIN, November 8. /Dunyo IA/. Germany’s economic development agency Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) has published an article entitled “Uzbekistan Bets on Wind and Solar Energy Alongside Gas,” reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
According to the agency, more than 6.7 gigawatts of new generating capacity are planned to be commissioned in Uzbekistan by the end of the year, with solar and wind power plants accounting for around half of this total. Major projects involve Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and the UAE’s Masdar, while investment in renewable energy had reached $6 billion by mid-2025.
By 2030, Uzbekistan plans to build nine 220-kilovolt substations, seven 500-kilovolt substations, and approximately 5,000 kilometers of power transmission lines. According to government forecasts, electricity generation is expected to reach 129 billion kilowatt-hours by that time, with renewables accounting for 54 percent of the total. The country is also developing gas-fired power generation, has launched a project to build its first nuclear power plant with the participation of Rosatom, and is preparing six waste-to-energy projects with Chinese companies worth approximately $933 million.
GTAI sees opportunities for German companies in engineering design, the supply of transformers and high-voltage equipment, automation, and digital grid management. As an example, the agency cites Hamburg-based GOPA, which provided consultancy services for the construction of three Masdar solar power plants in Uzbekistan.
