TASHKENT, August 24. /Dunyo/. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a letter to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, warmly congratulating him on the successful holding of elections to the country’s renewed parliament — the Kurultai — in accordance with international standards and democratic principles, reports a Dunyo correspondent.

“The Head of our state noted that this historic event marks the beginning of a new stage in improving Kazakhstan’s political system, enhancing the efficiency of public administration and significantly strengthening the role of parliament, – wrote the Press Secretary of the President of Uzbekistan on his telegram-channel. – The active participation of citizens in the elections was described as a clear indication of broad public support for the profound constitutional and socio-political reforms being carried out under the leadership of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aimed at ensuring Kazakhstan’s sustainable development and further strengthening its authority and influence on the international stage.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized that our country sincerely welcomes the significant results of the large-scale transformations currently taking place in the land of the fraternal Kazakh people, with whom we share centuries-old bonds of friendship and good-neighborliness.

He also expressed confidence that close cooperation between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will reach a new qualitative level in the spirit of the strategic partnership and allied relations between the two friendly countries.

In conclusion, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev wished Kassym-Jomart Tokayev good health, well-being and great success in his state activities, and the fraternal people of Kazakhstan peace and prosperity”.

It is worth recalling that on August 23, Kazakhstan elected deputies to the Kurultai, the country’s new unicameral parliament. These were the first parliamentary elections following the adoption of the new Constitution. The elections concluded yesterday at 8:00 p.m. local time. A total of 10,423 polling stations were opened. Seven political parties — “Adilet”, “Auyl”, “Aq Jol”, OSDP, “Baytaq”, NPK, and “Respublica” — competed for 145 seats in the Kurultai.
