Head of State inspects new transport infrastructure connecting Urgench and Khiva

ТАSHKENT, August 17. /Dunyo IA/. Today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the new railway line connecting Urgench International Airport with the railway station, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the press service of the Head of our State, Uzbekistan focuses on developing transport infrastructure, integrating different modes of transport, and creating a convenient transport system for residents and tourists. The project implemented in the Khorezm region also contributes to these goals.

As part of the 225 billion soum project, a new 11-kilometer railway line connecting Urgench International Airport with the railway station was built. The project also included the construction of a station, a bridge, road crossings, and 25 culverts along the line.

The new route will have the capacity to serve around 650,000 local and international tourists annually. Travel time between Urgench and Khiva will be halved, from 80 to 40 minutes. The project has also created around 30 new jobs.

Notably, this is the first project in Uzbekistan to directly connect an airport to the railway network. A CR200J electric train manufactured in China will operate on the Urgench International Airport–Khiva route.

The six-car electric train can carry around 400 passengers and reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. The carriages feature VIP, business, and economy-class seating, free Wi-Fi, charging ports for electronic devices, and modern air-conditioning and heating systems. The train also provides the necessary facilities for passengers with disabilities.

Head of State travelled to Khiva aboard the new electric train.

In Khiva, the President also inspected new trolleybuses that will operate on the route connecting Urgench International Airport with Khiva railway station.

The ten trolleybuses, delivered from China in July this year, are equipped with a modern autonomous operation system that allows them to travel up to 100 kilometers without being connected to overhead power lines. They will serve passengers on the Urgench–Khiva–Urgench route.

Each trolleybus can carry up to 87 passengers. They provide facilities for passengers with disabilities, older people, and passengers with children, and are equipped with USB and Type-C charging ports as well as internal and external surveillance cameras. They also feature driver monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic fire suppression systems.

The initiative to purchase these modern vehicles was put forward by the President during his visit to the Khorezm region last year.

Head of State noted that integrating different modes of transport will provide greater convenience for residents and tourists, reduce travel times, and enhance the region’s tourism appeal. Responsible officials were instructed to ensure safe and high-quality passenger services.
