“Global Korea Post”: Environmental Cooperation emerges as a key area of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan

SEOUL, August 2. /Dunyo IA/. South Korean online publication “Global Korea Post” has published an article highlighting environmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Article notes that bilateral cooperation is founded on the Agreement on Environmental Protection signed in 2008. It adds that the two countries are currently working on a new intergovernmental document aimed at expanding cooperation in this field.

Among the key developments, the publication highlights the meetings of the Ministers of Ecology held on the sidelines of COP28 and COP29, as well as the adoption of the Declaration on Cooperation in the Field of Environment within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States.

Publication also draws attention to the Asian Development Bank's regional “From Glaciers to Farms” programme, which envisages $3.5 billion in investments for 2025–2034 to address the impacts of climate change.

Among the promising areas of cooperation, publication identifies the exchange of experience in air quality monitoring, development of “green” infrastructure, scientific cooperation through Green University, the management of protected areas and the preparation of a new intergovernmental agreement.

According to “Global Korea Post”, environmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan is gradually evolving into strategic cooperation of significance for Central Asia, the South Caucasus and the Turkic world.
