RIYADH, August 25. /Dunyo IA/.  An article has been published on the official website of the “Union of Radio and Television of the OIC” on the implementation in Uzbekistan of a grant project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) aimed at digitally preserving the cultural heritage of the Great Silk Road, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Publication notes that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Cultural Heritage Agency of Uzbekistan held an equipment handover ceremony as part of the project “Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of the Great Silk Road through Digital Archives”.

The project is aimed at strengthening the country’s capacity in the field of protection and preservation of cultural heritage sites. As part of the initiative, Cultural Heritage Agency, State Museum of History of Uzbekistan and the Termez Archaeological Museum were provided with the necessary equipment for archiving culturally and archaeologically significant collections.

State Museum of History of Uzbekistan is one of the country’s leading museums and houses around 340,000 exhibits, including archaeological finds related to the history of Buddhism. Its collections feature archaeological, historical and ethnographic materials reflecting the development of civilizations in Central Asia from the Stone Age onwards.

As part of the project, the institutions were provided with computer equipment, scanners, cameras and presentation equipment, as well as consulting services.

According to the publication, the digitization of cultural and historical heritage will ensure its long-term preservation, while making digitized materials available on websites will expand access to them for visitors from Uzbekistan and abroad.
