“Hürriyet” Reports: New Uzbekistan rising as a strategic centre in Eurasian geopolitics

АNKARA, January 30. /Dunyo IA/.  An analytical article by a well-known Turkish scholar, Mehmet Seyfettin Erol, Director of the Ankara Center for Crisis and Political Studies (ANKASAM), focusing on the regional and global geopolitical corridor between Ankara and Tashkent, has been published in one of Türkiye’s most authoritative newspapers, “Hürriyet”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Professor Mehmet Seyfettin Erol notes in the article that the global system is undergoing a period of profound instability, against which Uzbekistan is gaining increasing importance as a central actor in Eurasian geopolitics. He emphasizes that the initiatives of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev - spanning domestic reforms, digital transformation, investment strategy, infrastructure and education projects, regional integration and cooperation with the Turkic world - are laying a solid foundation for Uzbekistan’s strategic influence at both regional and global levels.

The author notes that the concept of “New Uzbekistan” reflects a profound rethinking of the country’s civilizational heritage alongside the modernization of state governance grounded in historical experience. This process, widely referred to as the “Third Renaissance” blends cultural legacy with contemporary instruments of diplomacy and geopolitics, positioning Uzbekistan as an active actor in the domains of soft power, cultural diplomacy, sports diplomacy and international norms. The hosting of major international summits, the development of mediation capacity and participation in global initiatives further reinforce Uzbekistan’s standing as a constructive and responsible stakeholder in global affairs.

The article underscores that Uzbekistan’s active foreign policy is reflected in a balanced and multi-vector approach: cooperation with Russia in the fields of security and energy, with China in economic development and infrastructure, with the European Union in trade and investment and with India in energy and technology. Particular emphasis is placed on regional stability and integration through projects associated with the Middle Corridor as well as initiatives within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

The publication notes that 2025 marked a year of intensified diplomatic engagement in Uzbekistan-United States relations, with meetings between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Donald Trump held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and the “C5+1” Summit, focusing on economic cooperation, security and regional development. In January 2026, President Mirziyoyev became a founding member of the Gaza Peace Council, a move seen as further confirming Uzbekistan’s role as an active global partner in the field of peacebuilding and diplomatic mediation.

Relations between Uzbekistan and Türkiye, as well as engagement with the broader Turkic world, have emerged as a strategic priority of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy. The Ankara - Tashkent geopolitical axis is shaping a key regional strategic channel, while the integration of the Middle Corridor into economic and logistics networks is securing Uzbekistan a prominent position on both regional and global trade maps. The partnership between Ankara and Tashkent not only deepens bilateral ties but also strengthens Turkic world integration, contributing to stability, security and prosperity across the wider Central Asian region.
