WASHINGTON–TEHRAN, September 28. /Dunyo IA/. Iran said the conflict with the United States and Israel can only be resolved through diplomacy after US President Donald Trump rejected Tehran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the fighting, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing “Reuters.”

Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araqchi said the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would depend on Tehran’s conditions being met. According to him, mediators involved in contacts between Iran and the United States have not yet officially conveyed Washington’s position to Tehran.

Iran previously presented a proposal to end the conflict at the UN General Assembly in New York, transmitting it to the US side through Qatari mediators. Trump said he had rejected the plan but later said US negotiators would continue talks with Tehran this week.

US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said Washington rejected the proposal because Tehran had demanded the immediate lifting of sanctions and the release of frozen assets before further negotiations. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran was ready to discuss its nuclear programme and other issues but would not accept pressure or threats.

The conflict, which began on February 28 following US and Israeli strikes on Iran, has caused major disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and affected global oil supplies and the economy. Iranian forces have also launched attacks against US allies in the region.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has become increasingly involved in the conflict. Yemen’s Houthis have repeatedly launched attacks on Saudi territory, while their advances in Yemen have raised concerns over Saudi oil exports through the Red Sea.

Amid the escalation, authorities in Saudi Arabia reportedly announced that classes at some schools in Riyadh would move online. In Yemen, reports also emerged of civilians being killed and wounded in a strike on a market in Taiz province.
