Pilgrim Flow from ASEAN Countries to Uzbekistan Expected to Increase Significantly

• 82KUALA LUMPUR, May 27. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan Karomidin Gadoyev met with the leadership of the International Council of Sufis (Dewan Ulama Thariqah Internasional), reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the broad promotion of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential, including “Umrah Plus” tour packages, among the populations of ASEAN countries, as well as measures to further increase the flow of pilgrims to the republic.
The sides reviewed issues related to promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism opportunities, including pilgrimage tourism, among the countries of Southeast Asia. Representatives of the organization were informed about the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in the tourism sector, the development of pilgrimage tourism, and the creation of favourable conditions for foreign visitors.
Chairman of the Fatwa Commission of the International Council of Sufis Buya Mahyuzil Rahmat noted that during the organization’s visit to Uzbekistan in April 2026, the delegation visited the Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, the renovated Imam Bukhari complex in Samarkand, and other Islamic holy sites across the country. According to him, the visit left a strong impression on the participants.
Following the visit, the International Council of Sufis adopted a fatwa describing Uzbekistan as the “land of three spiritual pearls – Sharia, Ma’rifat and Haqiqat” and recommending it for international pilgrimage. The document was solemnly presented to Ambassador Karomidin Gadoyev.
Advisor to the organization Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hanafia Ar-Rabbani stated that, within the framework of this initiative, Uzbekistan’s tourism potential will be widely promoted among the council’s 15 million members across ASEAN countries.
