GENEVA, May 20. /Dunyo IA/. Eldiyor Toshmatov, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, delivered a statement during the general debate of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

In the statement, the Uzbek side welcomed the convening of the Assembly and expressed gratitude to the WHO for its consistently high attention to strengthening healthcare systems, including in the Central Asian region.

It was noted that with the support of the WHO, Uzbekistan continues to implement large-scale reforms aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of medical care, introducing international standards and developing modern approaches within the healthcare system.

Special attention in the statement was paid to strengthening primary health care, disease prevention, and the digitalization of the healthcare system. The Uzbek side also emphasized the need to further develop cooperation with the WHO in the areas of maternal and child health, combating non-communicable diseases - including oncological pathologies and strengthening the human resource potential of the healthcare system.

Particular emphasis was placed on the outcomes of WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus's visit to Uzbekistan in April 2026, which resulted in agreements to establish the WHO International Ibn Sina (Avicenna) Prize and to further strengthen cooperation across a number of priority areas.
