KYIV, July 13. /Dunyo IA/. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko is leaving her post following a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the Ukrainska Pravda.

Earlier, president of Ukraine announced plans to replace the prime minister. He said he had proposed that Yulia Svyrydenko take charge of a new area of work related to relations with a key international partner.

“I am grateful to Yulia for her clear, steady, and effective work as Prime Minister, for her years of productive service on Ukraine’s team, and I have offered her the opportunity to lead a new and important area of relations with a key partner,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Yulia Svyrydenko served as prime minister for about a year. She took office in July 2025 following a series of government reshuffles and became the second woman in Ukraine’s history to hold the position. Before becoming prime minister, she served as first deputy prime minister, minister of economy and worked in the Office of the president.

She said she was grateful to the Ukrainian leader for his trust and was ready to continue working for the country. “I am proud to have had the honour of leading the government during one of the most difficult periods in Ukraine’s modern history,” she wrote on her Telegram-channel.

The final decision on the appointment of a new prime minister is made by Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament). The resignation of the head of government leads to the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers, which continues to perform its duties until a new government is formed.

Ukrainian media have named several possible candidates for the post of prime minister, including former Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov and Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of “Naftogaz Ukraine.”

After announcing the government reshuffle, president held meetings with Koretskyi and Shmyhal, as well as with Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov.

One possible new role for Yulia Svyrydenko could be the position of Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States. The possibility was previously raised by lawmaker Yaroslav Zhelezniak. If appointed, current Ukrainian Ambassador to Washington Olga Stefanishyna could leave the post. She had previously expressed a desire to end her diplomatic service for personal reasons.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine needs to strengthen work in key foreign policy areas, including cooperation with the United States on the production of “Patriot” interceptor missiles and the development of security projects with the European Union.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he was ready to provide Ukraine with a license to produce missiles for “Patriot” systems. Experts estimate that the first Ukrainian-produced missiles may not enter service for another one to two years.
