Uzbekistan National Football Team begins FIFA World Cup preparations

RIYADH, May 11. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan national football team, under the leadership of head coach Fabio Cannavaro, will hold a three-week training camp in Tashkent, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with the Saudi newspaper “Asharq Al-Awsat”.

It is noted that an extended squad of 40 players will assemble at the National Football Center. The training camp will run until May 26. As part of the preparations, the team will play a series of closed-door friendly matches against Uzbekistan Super League clubs.

The list of called-up players includes team captain Eldor Shomurodov, Abbos Fayzullaev, Otabek Shukurov and defender Abdukodir Khusanov. All of them will join the national team following the completion of their club obligations.

Fabio Cannavaro has also included several young players who have not previously featured for the national side, including Nodir Abdurazzokov and Sherzod Isanov, who are contending for a spot in the final 26-man roster. The final squad will be announced on June 2nd. Special mention was made of players recovering from injuries, including Khusain Norchaev and Jaloliddin Masharipov.

Uzbekistan national team is preparing for its historic first-ever participation in the World Cup. The team will begin its group stage campaign with a match against Colombia in Mexico City on June 17th, followed by a clash with Portugal in Houston on June 23rd and will conclude the group stage against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Atlanta on June 27th.
