SHAHRISABZ, August 18. /Dunyo IA/. As part of the closing ceremony of the international “IROQI” Embroidery Festival held in Shahrisabz, a significant event took place highlighting the city’s international recognition in the field of traditional crafts, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, during the ceremony, Saad Al-Qaddumi, President of the World Crafts Council AISBL (International), officially announced that in 2026, Shahrisabz had been granted the status of a “World Craft City” in the field of embroidery.

Designation represents international recognition of Shahrisabz’s centuries-old craft traditions, particularly the unique “Iroqi” style of traditional Uzbek embroidery.

As part of the ceremony, the international certificate confirming Shahrisabz’s status as a “World Craft City” was officially presented to Sherzod Buriev, Hokim of Shahrisabz.

The new status is of particular importance for further strengthening Shahrisabz’s international reputation in the fields of traditional crafts and cultural heritage, promoting national craft traditions internationally, supporting local artisans, and enhancing the city’s tourism potential.

Furthermore, this international recognition is expected to contribute to promoting Shahrisabz more widely in international tourism markets as a promising destination for craft and cultural tourism.
