Uzbek Specialists to study sustainable forest management experience in Spain

MADRID, June 11. /Dunyo IA/. A delegation of 14 forestry specialists from Uzbekistan and Türkiye will visit the model forest of Palencia in Spain from June 15 to 17, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with the Spanish news portal “Cadena Ser”.

The visit will take place within the framework of the “Sustainable Forest Management in the Mountains and Valleys of Uzbekistan” project, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The primary goal of the project is to introduce modern sustainable forest resource management practices across Uzbekistan's forestry enterprises. To achieve this, participants are studying international best practices in areas recognized as models of effective forest management.

The delegation includes representatives from the Forestry Agency of Uzbekistan, specialists from the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, officials from the General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan handling environmental and forestry affairs, as well as experts from Turkish consulting firms.

During the visit, specialists will familiarize themselves with sustainable forest management practices, the system of interaction with local communities and approaches to conserving forest resources. The program also includes working meetings to exchange experiences and discuss prospects for future cooperation.

The model forest of Palencia was selected for the visit due to its recognized international expertise in sustainable forest management and a management model based on the broad participation of government agencies, business, scientific institutions and local communities.

The visit takes place against the backdrop of growing international recognition for the Palencia forest. In April 2026, the territory officially joined the Mediterranean and International Model Forest Networks, which unite more than 60 model forests across over 30 countries worldwide.

The experience gained is expected to help introduce modern approaches to forest resource management in Uzbekistan and will contribute to the development of international cooperation in this field.
