The United States and Iran announce Framework Agreement to end the war

WASHINGTON-TEHRAN, June 15. /Dunyo IA/. The United States and Iran have reached a framework agreement providing for the cessation of hostilities, the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade on Iran and the resumption of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with “Al Jazeera” television channel.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country served as a key mediator in the indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, was the first to announce the breakthrough. According to him, both sides have declared an “immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts”' including in Lebanon.

Shortly thereafter, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the breakthrough on social media. “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete”, - he wrote. According to the President's statement, the United States will also lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports. “Ships of peace, start your engines. Let the oil flow again!”, - the Head of State noted.

According to Iranian sources cited by “Al Jazeera”, the draft agreement encompasses 14 points. Key provisions include an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, the full lifting of the naval blockade within 30 days, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the initiation of negotiations for a final settlement of the nuclear issue within 60 days following the signing of the document.

The Secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council announced that military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon, will conclusively cease as of Monday.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated that during the 60-day ceasefire period, the parties intend to deliberate on a broader package of agreements, including the lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of assets.

The agreement was reached against the backdrop of persistent disagreements between Washington and Israel. Shortly before the announcement of the pact, Israel carried out a strike on Lebanese territory, drawing sharp criticism from both Iran and the United States.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously repeatedly diverged from the U.S. administration on the issue of restricting Israeli military operations in Lebanon. According to Israeli media reports, Donald Trump briefed him on the progress of the negotiations during a telephone conversation on June 14th.

In an interview with “The New York Times”, the U.S. leader described Benjamin Netanyahu as “a very difficult guy”, stating that he should be grateful to the United States for preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

A number of world leaders welcomed the reached agreement. The United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy declared their readiness to consider easing sanctions against Iran in response to “clear and verifiable steps” to restrict its nuclear program.

The official signing ceremony of the memorandum is scheduled to take place on June 19 in Switzerland. Prior to this, the parties intend to hold a series of technical consultations to prepare the final text of the document.
