TASHKENT, August 14. /Dunyo IA/.  Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva, addressed today the international conference “Independent Uzbekistan – 35 Years of Development Path: Reforms, Results and Prospects” in Tashkent, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Highlighting the significance of the 35^th Anniversary of Independence, she emphasized that this milestone allows not only for evaluating the path traveled but also for defining the priorities for the country's further development.

According to Tanzila Narbaeva, large-scale reforms have been implemented in Uzbekistan in recent years across practically all spheres of state and public life. At the center of these transformations are the individual, their dignity, and interests. Among the key areas, she highlighted economic liberalization, poverty reduction, strengthening social protection, reforming education and healthcare, supporting entrepreneurship and improving the judicial system.

“The main task before us now is to maintain the pace of sustainable economic growth and ensure that every region, every district and every family experiences its practical results”, Chairperson of the Senate noted.

Particular attention in the address was paid to the development of parliamentarism. It was noted that the new edition of the Constitution raised the role and responsibility of the parliament in the system of public administration, while the transfer of a number of powers from President to the parliament contributed to further strengthening the balance between the branches of power.

Tanzila Narbaeva emphasized that the effectiveness of the parliament must be evaluated not by the number of adopted laws or held events, but by their real impact on the life of the population. In this regard, the emphasis in parliamentary activities is gradually shifting from formal control to the joint search for solutions and the achievement of concrete results.

Role of local Kengashes (Councils) was noted separately. According to the Chairperson of the Senate, under the new constitutional framework, their powers and responsibilities are increasing regarding regional development, budget execution and addressing issues of public concern. The Senate has designated the support of local Kengashes as one of the priority areas of its activity.

Speaking on international cooperation, Tanzila Narbaeva noted that the open and pragmatic foreign policy of Uzbekistan has contributed to strengthening trust and good-neighbourliness in Central Asia. According to her, interparliamentary cooperation plays an important role in supporting regional initiatives and jointly addressing issues of water supply, energy, transport, trade and ecology.

She also emphasized Uzbekistan's active participation in the international parliamentary dialogue and the promotion of the country's initiatives. In particular, she noted the adoption of more than 15 UN General Assembly resolutions at the initiative of Uzbekistan, as well as the expansion of cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the parliaments of foreign states.

In conclusion, Tanzila Narbaeva outlined the key challenges of the new stage of development - the rapid integration of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, climate change, water scarcity and intensifying global technological competition.

She stressed the need to ensure qualitative economic growth, create high-income jobs, develop modern knowledge and skills among the youth, implement new technologies and reduce the imbalance in opportunities between the regions.
