ISTANBUL, January 22. /Dunyo IA/. Through the coordinated efforts of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan, Agency for Migration under the Cabinet of Ministers and National Agency for Social Protection, a six-year-old Uzbek national who had been left without parental care in Türkiye has been successfully repatriated to Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The child was born in Türkiye in November 2020. His mother, S.P., a citizen of Uzbekistan, passed away shortly after childbirth due to a serious illness.
For several years, the child was cared for informally by Syrian and Uzbek women before being taken in by his maternal aunt, A.P., also a citizen of Uzbekistan.
However, due to the absence of officially recognized documentation confirming guardianship, the child was subsequently placed in a children’s home in Istanbul. Applications submitted by the aunt seeking to formally adopt the child were declined by the institution.
Following a series of negotiations conducted by Uzbek diplomats with the relevant Turkish state authorities, and with the assistance of legal professionals, a Turkish court ruled in favor of transferring guardianship of the child to his aunt.
On the basis of a Certificate of Repatriation issued by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul, the child was returned to Uzbekistan on 18 January, accompanied by his aunt.
Upon arrival, the child’s living conditions, upbringing, education and overall welfare will be ensured by the National Agency for Social Protection, in full accordance with the legislation of Uzbekistan.
