Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan establish joint working group to reduce transboundary air pollution and improve the region's environmental conditions

ASTANA, July 10. /Dunyo IA/. Representatives of the environmental agencies of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed to strengthen cooperation in the area of ​​air protection and reducing transboundary pollution, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with the Kazakh portal “Vostochny Express 24”.

Parties discussed expanding joint work on atmospheric monitoring, sharing scientific data and implementing the “Clean Air” project .

Initiative was supported by the presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in April of this year.

During the talks, special attention was paid to improving air quality control systems, including monitoring fine particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10). Participants also examined the impact of atmospheric processes on the movement of pollutants between the two countries.

Representatives from the agencies emphasized that the problem of air pollution requires pooling scientific potential, regularly exchanging information and making coordinated decisions.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a joint working group comprising scientists and relevant specialists from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The group will develop specific measures to reduce transboundary air pollution and improve the environmental situation in the region.
