Uzbekistan initiates the inclusion of the Zaamin Mountains in the UNESCO World Heritage List

PARIS, April 14. /Dunyo IA/. With the support of the Permanent Delegation of Uzbekistan, an online meeting was held between representatives of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the National Committee of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Climate Change, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The main focus was placed on the preparation of the nomination dossier for the “Zaamin Mountains” natural site for its inclusion in the World Heritage List.

During the constructive dialogue, the parties discussed in detail the prospects and mechanisms of bilateral cooperation within the framework of preparing the nomination. In particular, issues concerning the compliance of the submitted materials with established international criteria and requirements were considered.

The event was attended by Alessandro Balsamo, Head of the Nominations Unit at the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, and Tiago Lopes, a specialist within the same department. The UNESCO representatives highly commended the materials presented by the Uzbek side, noting that they fully reflect the unique natural features of the “Zaamin Mountains”, the richness of their flora and fauna and their exceptional value as a natural heritage site.

It was emphasized that the UNESCO World Heritage Centre is ready to provide the Uzbek side with comprehensive advisory and methodological support at all stages of the nomination dossier preparation. In this regard, UNESCO experts provided a series of practical recommendations for bringing the documents into compliance with the provisions of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and its Operational Guidelines.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to further develop cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO on the preparation of the “Zaamin Mountains” nomination.
