Uzbekistan appoints its first Ambassador to Algeria

ALGIERS, May 5. /Dunyo IA/. The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Egypt, Mansurbek Kilichev, who has been concurrently appointed as the first Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Algeria with residence in Cairo, presented copies of his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
During the meeting held following the ceremony, the parties discussed prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation.
Ahmed Attaf highly appreciated the level of political relations between Algeria and Uzbekistan, emphasizing the importance of deepening ties in trade, economic and other areas. He noted that the current volume of bilateral trade remains below its potential and highlighted significant opportunities in sectors such as mining and geology, pharmaceuticals, and the textile industry.
The Algerian side also expressed interest in organizing the production of Uzbek textile goods in Algeria, with a population of around 50 million, for subsequent duty-free export to the broader African continent. In addition, proposals were put forward to establish trading houses, warehouses and showrooms in the country’s economic zones, create a business council, and launch an intergovernmental commission.
Particular attention was paid to expanding cooperation in education, healthcare, and inter-parliamentary relations.
Ahmed Attaf noted his awareness of the large-scale reforms and transformations being carried out under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and commended the country’s steady progress.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister expressed his anticipation of the forthcoming visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan to Algeria and asked that his sincere regards be conveyed. He also reaffirmed readiness to provide all necessary support for the effective work of the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Algeria.
Mansurbek Kilichev, 47, is a graduate of the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies. Since 2002, he has been serving within the system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, holding various diplomatic positions, including at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, as well as in Uzbekistan’s diplomatic missions abroad, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Saudi Arabia and the Consulate General in Dubai. Since October 2021, he has been serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Egypt.
