PARIS, May 9. /Dunyo IA/. With the support of the Permanent Delegation of Uzbekistan to UNESCO, an online meeting was held between representatives of the Agency for Vocational Education and the UNESCO Secretariat, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
During the meeting, the sides discussed preparations for the Global TVET & Skills Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Tashkent in October 2026.
The initiative to host the summit was put forward by the President of Uzbekistan during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand and was included in the “Roadmap” for cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO, signed on April 8 of this year.
During the consultations, the Uzbek side presented an updated draft Concept Note for the summit, revised to incorporate UNESCO’s recommendations. Participants discussed the format of the event, its status, expected outcomes, thematic focus areas and potential forms of expert assistance.
UNESCO representatives noted the relevance of the initiative, emphasizing its alignment with the organization’s priorities in education, skills development, and workforce training for future labour markets. Special focus was placed on the role of vocational education in the context of digital transformation, the advancement of artificial intelligence and the “green” economy.
UNESCO expressed its readiness to continue cooperating with Uzbekistan in preparing for the summit and to provide expert support. According to the organization, the forum could serve as an international platform for exchanging practical approaches to the development of vocational education and strengthening interaction between states, international organizations and the private sector.
Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to ensure that the preparations for the summit are both systematic and practice-oriented. It was noted that the event should serve as a platform for long-term international dialogue on vocational education, future skills and youth employment.
