AICHI-NAGOYA, September 24. /Dunyo IA/.  National team of Uzbekistan secured new medals at the ongoing Asian Games in Japan, climbing to seventh place in the overall medal standings, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

In the women's 200-meter canoe sprint competition, Shokhshanam Sherzodova won a gold medal. Artur Guliev and Vladlen Denisov became silver medalists in the 500-meter distance, while Arina Tanatmisheva and Ekaterina Shubina claimed bronze in the women's 500-meter kayak sprint.

In rowing, silver medals were secured by Shakhboz Kholmurzaev in the M1x discipline, Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin in the M2-, as well as the women's team consisting of Anna Aksenova, Mariya Sergeeva, Raykhona Sattorova and Aidana Smetullaeva in the W4- discipline. Another silver was awarded to Anna Prakaten in the W1x event.

A gold medal in the LM2x discipline was won by Shakhzod Nurmatov and Sobir Safaraliev. This duo had previously emerged as winners at the world championship held earlier this year.

Two more bronze medals were brought to Uzbekistan by wushu athletes – Saydullo Abdurashitov in the under 56 kg weight category and Doniyor Turgunboev in the under 75 kg category.

In foil fencing, Polina Volobueva reached the semifinals and secured a bronze medal. The national team claimed another bronze in esports, where Abubakr Iminjanov and Farrukh Mirkhamidov finished third in the football simulator competition, delivering Uzbekistan's first-ever medal in this discipline at the Asian Games.

Consequently, Uzbekistan's current tally stands at 4 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze medals – a total of 21 accolades. China, Japan and South Korea lead the overall medal standings.

On September 24^th, Uzbek athletes will continue their performances in rowing, canoeing and kayaking, boxing, track and field, fencing, swimming, table tennis, shooting, field hockey, water polo and artistic gymnastics.

Starting this year, monetary rewards for athletes winning medals at the Asian and Para Asian Games have been increased. A prize of $25,000 is provided for a gold medal, $12,000 for a silver medal, and $6,250 for a bronze medal; the coaches of the medalists are awarded $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500, respectively.
