Kuala Lumpur celebrates Global Turkic Languages Family Day

KUALA LUMPUR, February 4. /Dunyo IA/.  On the eve of the 585th anniversary of the birth of Alisher Navoi - the founder of the Uzbek literary language, eminent poet and statesman who made a profound contribution to the development of Turkic languages - a cultural event was held in Malaysia’s capital, highlighting the significance of the UNESCO historical resolution establishing the World Day of Turkic Languages, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The event was attended by representatives of Turkic states’ embassies in Malaysia.

Uzbek Ambassador Karomiddin Gadoev highlighted Alisher Navoi’s invaluable contribution to the Turkic linguistic heritage, emphasizing how he elevated the language to the level of a state language. He noted that following Nizami Ganjavi, Navoi composed the “Khamsa” in Turkic, once again demonstrating that monumental and refined literary works could be produced in the language.

The Ambassador also underscored the importance of the resolution adopted at UNESCO’s historic 43rd General Conference held in Samarkand in November 2025. This resolution establishing the World Day of Turkic Languages represents a significant milestone in the preservation and development of Turkic languages. In today’s context of globalization, it serves as a reliable guarantee of interlinguistic and intercultural harmony as well as a testament to friendship among diverse peoples.

It was emphasized that the invaluable heritage preserved in the Orkhon-Yenisei inscriptions as well as in the works of great thinkers such as Alisher Navoi, Yunus Emre, Abai, Fuzuli and Makhtumkuli, once again underscores the richness and depth of Turkic languages. The Uzbek government continues to pursue a consistent policy aimed at further developing this unique legacy, enhancing the prestige of the Uzbek language as an integral part of the Turkic linguistic family and strengthening its role in science, diplomacy and international communication.

Turkish Ambassador Emir Salim Yüksel expressed special gratitude to the Government of Uzbekistan for its efforts in promoting Turkic languages as well as for its role in advancing and securing the UNESCO resolution establishing the World Day of the Turkic Language Family on the agenda of the 43rd General Conference in Samarkand. He noted that this long-awaited and historic resolution marks a new stage in reinforcing mutual solidarity and cultural unity among Turkic states.

The event featured poetry readings in celebration of the language from works by Alisher Navoi, Abdullah Oripov and Khurshid Davron, which were warmly received by attendees. Representatives of the Turkic states agreed to make the Malaysian event a regular forum and to jointly commemorate the first anniversary of the UNESCO resolution on the World Day of the Turkic Language Family on 15 December this year in Kuala Lumpur.
