MADRID, June 21. /Dunyo IA/.  A meeting was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Madrid with the President of World Triathlon Antonio Fernández Arimany and President of the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) José Hidalgo, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the negotiations, the parties reviewed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain in the field of triathlon. The Spanish partners highly praised the outcomes of their visit to Uzbekistan in April 2026, during which a bilateral cooperation agreement was signed between the triathlon federations of both nations. According to the participants, the next phase will focus on the practical implementation of the reached agreements and the launch of joint initiatives.

Special attention during the meeting was focused on athlete preparation. The Spanish delegation announced plans to deploy a group of technical experts to Uzbekistan within the current month to scout and select promising local athletes. The selected individuals will have the opportunity to continue their high-performance training and enhance their skills at specialized athletic facilities in Spain.

The participants also deliberated on the initiative to establish an International Academic Triathlon Center for Central Asian nations, to be located within the ongoing construction of the Olympic Village in Tashkent. According to the Spanish partners, the implementation of this project will transform Uzbekistan into a state-of-the-art regional sporting hub dedicated to the comprehensive training of athletes, coaches and specialized sports professionals.

Following the negotiations, both parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening cooperation, fostering direct contacts between relevant organizations, and executing joint projects in athlete preparation, sports education, and the hosting of international competitions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Presidents of “World Triathlon” and “FETRI” were presented with commemorative gifts on behalf of the Uzbekistan Triathlon Federation.
