Initiative of Uzbekistan on the preservation of cultural heritage presented at UNESCO Headquarters

PARIS, October 2. /Dunyo IA/.   An information session was held at UNESCO Headquarters dedicated to Uzbekistan’s initiative to strengthen measures for the preservation of cultural heritage in the context of globalization and climate change, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Event was organized by the Permanent Delegation of Uzbekistan to UNESCO for the member states of the organization in connection with the draft decision of the 225th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, introduced at the initiative of Uzbekistan.

Meeting was attended by representatives of UNESCO member states and the Secretariat of the organization.

Draft decision constitutes a continuation of the initiatives put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the opening of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand. Head of State proposed the development of a corresponding decision of the Executive Board and the holding of an international symposium on the preservation of cultural heritage in Khiva.

During the session, participants were presented with the main objectives and substance of the draft decision, as well as its alignment with existing UNESCO conventions, programs, and previously adopted resolutions.

Particular attention was paid to the practical orientation of the initiative and the imperative to strengthen international and intersectoral cooperation in the field of cultural heritage protection.

One of the key practical events will be the International Symposium on the Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Context of Globalization and Climate Change, which is scheduled to take place in Khiva in 2027.

Symposium is envisioned to serve as a platform for exchanging national and regional experiences, knowledge and practical solutions with the participation of experts from various UNESCO regions.

Information session also provided an opportunity to continue consultations with member states ahead of the consideration of the draft decision at the 225th session of the UNESCO Executive Board.

Promotion of this initiative reflects Uzbekistan's commitment to expanding international cooperation in the field of cultural heritage preservation and making a practical contribution to this endeavor within the framework of UNESCO.
