VIENNA, February 24. /Dunyo IA/. A comprehensive study analysing the accessibility of high-tech diagnostics and radiation therapy in Eastern Europe, the Baltic states and Central Asia has been published in one of the world’s leading medical journals, “The Lancet Oncology”, according to the Dunyo News Agency.
According to international experts, Uzbekistan demonstrates the most impressive progress in modernizing oncology services among the countries of the region.
The article emphasizes that, thanks to systematic state investments, the country has recorded one of the highest rates of medical equipment renewal. Currently, nearly 50% of all remote radiation therapy devices in Uzbekistan consist of modern, next-generation linear accelerators. In addition, Uzbekistan is recognized as a regional leader in the development of nuclear medicine: the establishment of a network of PET-CT diagnostic centers has placed the country at the forefront of Central Asia, providing the population with access to the most precise methods for detecting neoplasms.
The journal’s experts also highlight the effectiveness of centralized management of oncology care in Uzbekistan. This approach has allowed not only the implementation of uniform international treatment standards across the country but also consistently high performance in highly specialized areas such as brachytherapy, where Uzbekistan surpasses many of its regional neighbours in terms of equipment availability.
Earlier, the same journal reported on Uzbekistan’s achievements in pediatric oncology. In that publication, the authors highlighted the country as an example for the international community, noting its exceptional political will in implementing the National Strategy and ensuring the full, free provision of high-quality anti-cancer medications for children.
