A series of articles titled “Uzbekistan and Pakistan: Building an industrial and investment corridor between Central and South Asia” have been published across leading Pakistani media outlets, including “Diplomatic Affairs”, “The Gulf Observer”, “CPEC News”, “Media Online Today”, “The World News”, “Sub News”, “Diplomats World”, “Pakistan in the World”, “Times of Central Asia”, “Daily Sub News” and “Islamabad Post”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The publications underscore that Uzbekistan and Pakistan are consistently strengthening their strategic partnership, with a particular focus on expanding trade, boosting investment flows and advancing industrial cooperation. In recent years, bilateral relations have acquired a systemic and sustainable character, while the results achieved point to the presence of significant untapped potential.
According to the articles, the establishment of a solid institutional framework, coupled with the intensification of joint projects, has created favourable conditions for further dynamic growth in bilateral trade and investment volumes.
It is reported that by the end of 2025, mutual trade turnover between the two countries reached USD 446 million, marking an increase of 9.4 per cent. Uzbekistan’s exports amounted to USD 325 million, while the positive foreign trade balance exceeded USD 200 million, reflecting the strengthening economic position of Uzbek - Pakistani cooperation.
The structure of bilateral trade reflects the agro-industrial complementarity of the two economies. Uzbekistan’s exports to Pakistan are dominated by legumes, which account for around 70 per cent, alongside grain products, cotton yarn, transport services, selected categories of agricultural raw materials and chemical products.
Imports from Pakistan consist primarily of pharmaceutical products, food items such as potatoes and meat, metallurgical goods, textiles, light industry products and medical equipment, underscoring the diversified and mutually reinforcing nature of trade relations.
According to Pakistani media reports, an additional impetus to bilateral cooperation was provided by the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, held on 2 February 2026 in Islamabad. During the session, the Pakistani side officially designated Uzbekistan as a key and priority partner in Central Asia and announced the establishment of a special internal committee tasked with ensuring systematic engagement across all areas of cooperation.
In conclusion, the publications note that Uzbek - Pakistani relations are evolving beyond a framework of conventional trade exchange towards the formation of a comprehensive investment and industrial architecture. Should the current momentum be sustained, achieving a USD 2 billion trade turnover is viewed as a strategically sound and fully attainable objective, reflecting the long-term ambitions of both countries.
