Uzbekistan to host IAEA regional meeting on applied nuclear research

VIENNA, February 15. /"Dunyo" IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Ibragimov met with Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Head of the Department of Nuclear Science and Applications Najat Mokhtar.

During the meeting, discussions centered on the current state and future prospects of cooperation in utilizing nuclear technologies across various sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy and healthcare.
Najat Mokhtar highly appreciated Uzbekistan's progress in scientific research and applied work. This includes the use of ionizing radiation sources for medical purposes, sterilization of medical and food products, and the provision of radiation protection. The meeting highlighted the significant role played by the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences and other scientific research laboratories in Uzbekistan in advancing nuclear energy science.
The parties reached an agreement to hold a regional IAEA meeting on the current state of applied nuclear research, proposed by the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, in Samarkand in September-October.
