Strengthening cooperation with Poland in the field of human rights

• 164WARSAW, June 5. /Dunyo IA/. A delegation led by Feruza Eshmatova, the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), visited Poland on a working visit, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
During the visit, an international round table themed “Human rights, freedom of speech and gender equality: national reforms, international standards and cooperation” was organized at the University of Warsaw in cooperation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
The event was attended by representatives of the OSCE ODIHR, Polish government agencies, national human rights institutions, civil society organizations, academia, and international experts. During the discussions, participants exchanged views on ensuring human rights, freedom of speech, gender equality, and developing international cooperation in these areas.
During the visit, meetings and negotiations were held with the leadership of the OSCE ODIHR, representatives of the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland, the Office of the Polish Ombudsman, and members of the Sejm. The parties discussed human rights protection, improving parliamentary oversight, exchanging experience between ombudsman institutions, and expanding bilateral cooperation.
During the meetings, information was presented on the large-scale reforms implemented in Uzbekistan to ensure human rights, strengthen the rule of law, and support civil society institutions.
In addition, the delegation examined the living and working conditions of Uzbek citizens residing in Poland. Specifically, they visited a correctional facility, a temporary detention center for foreign nationals, and residential areas of their compatriots. During discussions with the citizens, their applications were reviewed, and necessary clarifications were provided regarding the protection of their rights and legitimate interests.
Following the visit, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Poland in the field of human rights, expanding the exchange of experience and implementing joint initiatives.
