Washington State hosts event honouring decades of friendship between Seattle and Tashkent

• 198MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, June 4. /Dunyo IA/. A cultural and educational event dedicated to the history of friendly relations between Seattle and Tashkent was held at the Mountlake Terrace Library, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The event was attended by Dan Peterson, former President of the Seattle-Tashkent Sister City Association, along with representatives of the Uzbek diaspora in the United States. Participants were presented with information about the culture of Uzbekistan, national dances and the development of friendly ties between the two cities.
During the event, it was noted that friendly relations between Seattle and Tashkent were established in the early 1970s, with the official status of sister cities formally secured in 1973. It was emphasized that over the past decades, these ties have contributed to the development of people-to-people diplomacy, as well as cooperation in the fields of education, culture and peace-building.
As part of the program, Uzbek national dances were presented, guests familiarized themselves with the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan and discussed the significance of humanitarian ties between the peoples of the two countries.
Following the event, participants noted the crucial role of public diplomacy in strengthening international relations, emphasizing that even when governments do not always agree, people strive for mutual understanding and dialogue.
