SAMARKAND, September 27. /Dunyo IA/.  Decisive stage has commenced at the 46^th World Chess Olympiad: following the results of the 10th round in the open section, the Uzbekistan-1 national team, with 18 points, is one step away from the championship, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Team, consisting of Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Javokhir Sindarov, Nodirbek Yakubboev, and Mukhiddin Madaminov, defeated Armenia in the 10^th round. Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Javokhir Sindarov, and Mukhiddin Madaminov secured victories on their respective boards.

Meanwhile, the Uzbekistan-2 team lost to India with a score of 0.5:3.5 in one of the central matches of the round. The Uzbekistan-3 national team, featuring a young squad, competed against Israel and suffered a narrow defeat.

Today, on September 27, the 11^th round matches of the Olympiad will take place. In this round, the Uzbekistan-1 team will face the national team of Ukraine.

Ahead of the 11^th round, India is in second place with 17 points. Germany, Ukraine, and Hungary possess 16 points each. The United States, Türkiye and several other teams have accumulated 15 points.

Therefore, final round is of decisive importance not only for the championship but also for the distribution of podium places.

In the 11^th round, the Uzbekistan-2 team will compete against the national team of China. This match is also of critical significance for the team led by Jahongir Vakhidov.

In the 10^th round of the women's section, the Uzbekistan-1 team defeated the national team of Peru by a large margin. However, ahead of the final round, our team occupies 7^th place with 15 points.

In the women's tournament, China leads with 18 points. Kazakhstan is in second place with 17 points, while India, Poland, and Vietnam have accumulated 16 points each. In the 11th round, Uzbekistan-1 will face Armenia, Uzbekistan-2 will compete against Israel, and Uzbekistan-3 will play against South Africa.

Matches between China and Vietnam, Kazakhstan and Poland, and India and Georgia in the final round will be among the key fixtures in the women's tournament. At the same time, several teams with 15 points, including Uzbekistan-1, retain their chances of securing podium places.

Concurrently with the Olympiad, General Assembly meeting of the 97^th FIDE Congress was held in Samarkand, where the new FIDE President was elected.

According to the voting results, Timur Turlov, the President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and the founder and head of Freedom Holding Corp., was elected FIDE President. Viswanathan Anand became the Vice President of the organization.

The 38-year-old Timur Turlov became the youngest president in FIDE history. He has been leading the Kazakhstan Chess Federation since 2023.
