Photo Exhibition dedicated to the historical and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan opens in Tokyo

A photo exhibition dedicated to Uzbekistan, organized by the Embassy together with the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan and the Japan Photographic Society, is being held at the Hanzomon Museum in Tokyo from August 12th to September 27th, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Hanzomon Museum, founded in 2018, possesses collections that trace the development of Buddhist art from the Gandhara region through Central Asia and China to Japan. Holding the exhibition of Uzbek photography in this space underscores the historical role of Uzbekistan as a crossroads of ancient civilizations.
Exposition is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence. It includes photographs reflecting the country's ancient history, architectural monuments, cultural heritage, cities, nature and the daily life of its people.
An important part of the exhibition is the exposition “125 Years of Uzbek Photography: 1879–1990”. The presented historical photographs allow tracing the changes in public life, urban planning, architecture and the daily life of the population.
Kyoko Kamiya, Producer of the Japan Photographic Society's “Tokyo Photo Month – 2026”, noted that cooperation between Japanese and Uzbek photographers has reached a new level this year. According to him, the presentation of the artistic and historical heritage of Uzbek photography at the Hanzomon Museum holds a special symbolic significance on the eve of the 35th Anniversary of the Independence of Uzbekistan.
Photo exhibition is designed to strengthen cultural ties between the peoples of Japan and Uzbekistan and to establish a foundation for new joint projects. The presented works also demonstrate the rich historical and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan, located at the crossroads of the Great Silk Road.
