“London Post” highlights Uzbekistan’s sovereign debt as sustainable and well-managed

LONDON, January 17. /Dunyo IA/. An article has been published on the United Kingdom’s renowned news portal, “London Post”, focusing on Uzbekistan’s external public debt and gross domestic product (GDP), reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, as of October 1, 2025, the country’s total external debt stood at USD 75.4 billion, of which USD 37.4 billion corresponds to public external debt. The remaining approximately USD 38 billion represents corporate debt obligations of state-owned and private enterprises without government guarantees.

The article notes that, by international classification standards, Uzbekistan’s public debt level is considered moderate and manageable. The USD 37.6 billion public external debt accounts for roughly 26% of GDP (with official GDP estimated at approximately USD 145 billion). This ratio is well below internationally recognised thresholds considered potentially risky for macroeconomic stability.

Overall, as a result of comprehensive measures implemented between 2017 and 2025, more than 2 million jobs have been created, export volumes have increased by 270% and GDP per capita has grown by 418%.

However, the most important aspect is that resource mobilisation must be conducted under strict rules, transparency and effective oversight. As highlighted by the Head of State in his Address, members of parliament are tasked with monitoring the entire life cycle of projects from selection and competitions to implementation and final results. The status, stages and processes of projects will be published in real time, providing clear visibility into how tenders and competitions are conducted and how obligations are being fulfilled.

The publication concludes that Uzbekistan’s approach to investment is extremely clear: while resources are necessary for the country’s growth, strict oversight, transparency and measurable results must be ensured to serve the interests of the population. All processes are conducted openly, step by step, and within clearly defined accountability frameworks, in line with these principles.
