ROME, April 21. /Dunyo IA/. A scientific, cultural, and educational event dedicated to the 690th anniversary of the birth of the great statesman and commander Amir Temur was held in the capital of Italy, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan with the assistance of the Florence Historical Center.

The program was attended by representatives of Italy’s scientific and academic circles, cultural and publishing figures, media and compatriots. The agenda featured presentations of books dedicated to Uzbekistan and Uzbek-Italian relations, including the introduction of the “Baburnama” by publisher Sandro Tetti, as well as a film screening.

The discussion also covered the role of Amir Temur and the Temurid era in world civilization, their political, economic and cultural legacy, as well as the historical ties between Central Asia and Europe.

In his speech, Professor Michele Bernardini of the University of Naples L'Orientale, a leading European researcher of the Temurid period and editor of the journal Eurasian Studies, presented the image of Amir Temur not only as a military leader but also as a statesman capable of managing complex political processes and uniting diverse cultural and intellectual environments.

He also presented his new book, “Tamerlano”, noting that the state traditions, art, and numerous achievements of the Temurid era have spread throughout the world.

Lorenzo Publici, a historian and Professor at the University of Naples L'Orientale, in his books “History of the Mongols” and “The Crossroads of Europe and Asia in the Middle Ages”, focused on the activities of Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur and the Baburid dynasty. He demonstrated how the Temurid legacy expanded into India and the broader Eurasian space."

Professor Andrea Zinzani of the University of Bologna spoke about the development of Samarkand during the Temurid era. In his work, “The Water Supply System of Ancient Samarkand”, he noted that through irrigation, infrastructure, and urban planning traditions, the city became a major economic and cultural hub of Central Asia.

For his part, writer Rolando Montecalvo highlighted the flourishing of miniature art during the Temurid period, using the example of Uzbek miniatures.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan Abat Fayzullaev noted that, at the initiative and under the leadership of the President, Amir Temur’s birthday is widely celebrated across Uzbekistan. Specifically, as part of the “Amir Temur Month”, the Amir Temur Square in the capital’s center has been landscaped, the State Museum of the History of the Temurids has been renovated, and international conferences have been held.
