PHILADELPHIA, February 14. /Dunyo IA/. An official opening ceremony was held today in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to inaugurate the Uzbek supermarket “Asr”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The Uzbek diaspora in Philadelphia has officially inaugurated the “Asr” supermarket, a project spearheaded by community representatives in the city. The ceremonial event brought together members of the Uzbek community, alongside representatives from Turkish, Palestinian, Afghan, Russian and Ukrainian diasporas.

The opening of “Asr” adds another significant node to the existing network of national trade infrastructure in the United States, complementing established operations such as the Tashkent supermarket chain in New York. The new Philadelphia center offers a broad assortment of goods, including products imported directly from Uzbekistan.

The supermarket has been designed not merely as a commercial venue but also as a space for preserving gastronomic traditions. It features facilities for halal meat preparation, the cooking of traditional Uzbek dishes, and on-site dining areas where visitors can sample freshly prepared foods. By ensuring that all products meet strict quality standards, the supermarket has cultivated enduring appeal among customers of diverse nationalities.

The opening ceremony of the “Asr” supermarket in Philadelphia featured performances by a traditional Karnay-Surnay ensemble and a dance troupe. Representatives of the Uzbek community and diplomats from Uzbekistan addressed the guests, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in promoting a positive image of Uzbekistan abroad.

Overall, the ongoing collaboration between U.S.-based diaspora organizations and community representatives reflects a consistent effort to support initiatives led by Uzbek nationals, foster civic engagement and strengthen Uzbekistan’s cultural and humanitarian presence overseas. This approach aligns closely with the priorities of contemporary state policy, which emphasizes comprehensive support for national communities abroad and the enhancement of their international reputation.

The new trade facility represents a significant milestone for the local Uzbek diaspora and serves as yet another testament to the growing entrepreneurial and commercial activity of Uzbek nationals in the United States.
