TOKYO, August 13. /Dunyo IA/. A “roundtable” was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan with students from Keio University and representatives of the Students Association for International Issues, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Japanese researchers were briefed on the large-scale reforms implemented in Uzbekistan in recent years, including economic diversification, development of human capital and education, ensuring energy security, transitioning to a “green” economy and improving transport and logistics infrastructure.

Participants also discussed Uzbekistan's foreign policy, its role in Central Asia, regional cooperation, as well as the significance of natural resources and energy for the national economy. Japanese students received answers to their questions regarding the country's economic development, energy policy, foreign relations, and regional interaction.

In September of this year, Keio University researchers plan to undertake a scientific research visit to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan. In Uzbekistan, the program will take place from September 9^th to 16^th, covering Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara.

Research is being conducted on the topic “Resources and Geopolitics – What Do States Rely On?”. Within its framework, it is planned to study the natural resources and energy policy of Uzbekistan, the impact of efficient resource utilization on economic development, ongoing socio-economic reforms, as well as the country’s relations with Central Asian states and other nations.

Itinerary of the visit also includes visiting the offices of Japanese companies operating in Uzbekistan and joint investment projects.

Founded in 1858, Keio University is one of Japan's most prominent private higher education institutions, with an enrolment of approximately 34,000 students. In the “QS World University Rankings 2027”, the university is ranked 213th globally and ranks among the top ten universities in Japan.

Research groups from Keio University conduct annual scientific visits to various regions of the world, studying development trends and the potential of individual countries and regions. The study of Uzbekistan's economic and resource potential aims to expand the knowledge of young Japanese researchers about the country and to develop academic and scientific cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan.
