Commemorative Event Held in Pakistan Marking the Day of Remembrance and Honor

ISLAMABAD, May 11. /Dunyo IA/. A spiritual and educational event dedicated to May 9 – the Day of Remembrance and Honor– was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Pakistan with the participation of compatriots living in the country, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

At the beginning of the event, tribute was paid to those who died during the Second World War, as well as those who worked in the rear for victory and a peaceful life. Participants expressed respect for the heroes and noted their contribution to ensuring freedom and independence for future generations.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher Tukhtayev delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing that over the years of independence, May 9 has gained a new meaning as a day of honoring the memory of the fallen and showing respect to the older generation and labor veterans.

The ambassador also highlighted the heroism and selflessness of Uzbekistanis who participated in the war and worked in the rear, stressing that their sacrifice serves as an example for the current generation.

During the event, special attention was given to the essence of the decree of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev dated April 16, 2026, “On measures for preparation and holding of the Day of Remembrance and Honour on May 9,” as well as the President’s congratulatory message on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Second World War.

It was noted that around 1.5 million residents of Uzbekistan were mobilized to the front, of whom 538,000 died. Millions of citizens also contributed to victory by working in the rear, supplying the front with food, clothing, and military products.

The ambassador emphasized that today’s peace and prosperity in the country are based on the courage, resilience, and dedication of war participants and home front workers. He noted that Remembrance and Honor Day has become an important date in Uzbekistan, uniting society and strengthening values of respect for people.

Compatriots living in Pakistan also highlighted the importance of such events in strengthening patriotism, respect for national values, and preserving the memory of ancestors among youth abroad.

The event concluded with a cultural program featuring the children of diplomats and compatriots, during which patriotic poems were recited.
