Former Foreign Minister of Mauritania elected Secretary-General of OIC

TASHKENT, August 28. /Dunyo IA/. At an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held yesterday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, former Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed was elected as the organisation’s new Secretary-General, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the Turkish news agency “Anadolu”, 66-year-old Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed will succeed Chadian diplomat Hussein Ibrahim Taha, who served as OIC Secretary-General from 2021 to 2026.

The newly elected Secretary-General served as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen from 2015 to 2018.
