TEHRAN, August 10. /Dunyo IA/. Iran has stated that it does not intend to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the United States changes its policy towards Tehran, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with “NBC”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that there are currently no direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington, while intermediaries continue to explore ways to resume dialogue.

He also stressed that the talks with Oman on managing maritime traffic do not mean the imminent reopening of the Strait, as any possible changes to maritime routes are a technical and legal matter.

Earlier, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, outlined Tehran’s conditions for restoring full maritime traffic. These include the withdrawal of the U.S. naval blockade, payment of compensation for the war, the unfreezing of Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions, and an end to the conflict against Iran and its regional allies.

The United States has yet to respond publicly to these demands. Washington, meanwhile, insists that Tehran abandon its nuclear ambitions. U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that a mechanism for the safe passage of vessels through the Strait is being discussed, which could include demining efforts and assurances against attacks on transiting vessels.

Oman said that its talks with Iran are proceeding in a “positive and constructive atmosphere”. The sides are discussing arrangements for managing the movement of vessels through the Strait and the possible introduction of a toll fee for passage. Tehran, meanwhile, stresses that its talks with Muscat do not yet mean a decision to reopen the waterway.

Tensions in the region remain amid the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran-allied Houthis in Yemen again attacked Saudi Arabia, including facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco. Saudi authorities said that the fire at an oil refinery in Jizan had been extinguished and that there were no casualties.

“Saudi Aramco” intends to reroute part of its exports through the Red Sea in an effort to circumvent the closed Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia condemned the Houthi attacks, saying that they have been targeting the kingdom since July 13^th and commercial vessels since July 22^nd.
