WASHINGTON, June 26. /Dunyo IA/. The United States is effectively ending the acceptance of foreign nationals seeking political asylum, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing The Washington Post.
“America’s doors are closed, fully, to asylum seekers,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told reporters.
“We’ve set up agreements where if you want asylum, then we will find a country elsewhere in the world for you to go,” the senior adviser to the U.S. president said. "It is a very simple, very elegant, very complete solution.”
Miller also reiterated his support for tightening security along the U.S.-Mexico border.
“All asylum claims across the southwest border are always fraudulent,” the White House official asserted. He also urged Haitian nationals living in the United States under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to return to their home country as soon as possible.
Earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the administration, allowing it to end Temporary Protected Status for citizens of Syria and Haiti who are in the country without legal permanent status. The ruling clears the way for the U.S. government to deport hundreds of thousands of such individuals.
