First group of students arrives in Qatar to begin studies at Lusail University

DOHA, September 11. /Dunyo IA/. The first group of four Uzbek students has arrived in the capital of Qatar to begin their studies at Lusail University (LU), one of the country’s prestigious institutions, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The students come from ordinary families in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Namangan and Tashkent. They achieved high scores on the IELTS testing system and passed a rigorous selection process. Their studies have become possible thanks to the collaboration between the Embassy of Uzbekistan and Lusail University, which resulted in grants provided by the Qatar Fund for Development.

Over the next four years, the students will pursue bachelor’s degrees in fields such as business and commerce, logistics and education. This will enable them to become qualified and sought-after professionals, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for future career growth and success.

It is important to note that gender equality was observed in the selection process, with educational grants awarded to two women. This approach reflects the leadership’s commitment to creating favorable conditions for the quality education and upbringing of the next generation, especially girls.

As President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized in his speech on March 7, 2024, at the ceremony dedicated to International Women’s Day: "…the education of women, including girls, their access to higher education, and the acquisition of professions will contribute to the happiness of families, the development of children, and the prosperity of society as a whole".

Lusail University, which opened in April 2020, is Qatar’s first private national university. It currently has over 4,000 students from 56 countries, making it the third-largest university in Qatar by student enrollment. Lusail University offers 15 undergraduate programs and 4 master’s degrees. The university also collaborates with leading global institutions, including the Paris-Panthéon-Sorbonne University.

The number of Uzbek students studying in Qatar continues to grow. It is expected that upon completing their education, they will return to their homeland and make significant contributions to the development of their regions. The educational cooperation program helps strengthen the ties between Uzbekistan and Qatar, building strong bridges of friendship and mutual understanding between the future leaders of the two countries.
