PARIS, July 12. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan presented its experience in environmental and climate education at the Transforming Education Summit +4, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris to review progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 and strengthen international cooperation in education, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The summit brought together UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, President of South African Republic Cyril Ramaphosa, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, education ministers, representatives of international organizations, and experts.

Uzbekistan was represented by a delegation led by First Deputy Minister of Preschool and School Education Sherzod Karimov, who addressed a session on climate and environmental education.

In his remarks, Sherzod Karimov outlined the country’s education reforms, including the modernization of preschool, school and vocational education, the digitalization of the learning process, teacher training, and the expansion of international cooperation.

He highlighted Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen environmental education, noting that climate and environmental topics have been incorporated into the curricula of seven school subjects, as well as into teacher training and professional development programs.

The delegation also presented several national initiatives, including the Eco-Schools project, which covers 694 schools and more than 100,000 students, the Young Climate Champions and Young Green Ambassadors programs, and the Young Farmer initiative promoting sustainable agriculture.

Participants were also introduced to the experience of the Aral Sea region as an example of the close link between environmental challenges, quality of life, and the need to expand climate education.

During the summit, Uzbekistan reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening environmental education by joining the UNESCO Greening Education Partnership and setting a target to transform at least 50% of the country’s schools into green schools by 2030.
