Karachi hosts Uzbekistan-Pakistan Business Forum to boost bilateral economic ties

• 207KARACHI, December 9. /Dunyo IA/. With the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Karachi, “Uzbekistan-Pakistan Business Forum” was held, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The forum brought together leaders of Sindh Province, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Director General of the Pakistan Trade Development Authority, the Korangi Association of Commerce and Industry and other representatives of local authorities. The event also hosted over 150 participants, including more than 15 Uzbek entrepreneurs operating in sectors such as textiles, precious metals processing, pharmaceuticals, and leather production. In addition, representatives of major distribution networks, as well as the construction, energy, hospitality, and restaurant industries, along with other sectors of Pakistan’s economy were in attendance.
The forum was inaugurated by Alisher Tukhtaev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan, who provided a detailed overview of the extensive reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He highlighted measures including the liberalization of tax and customs regulations, the country’s scientific and intellectual potential, its economic and natural resources, and its diversified industrial base.
It was noted that, thanks to the strengthening of friendly relations between the heads of state and their decisive political support, bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Pakistan have in recent years reached a new stage, attaining the level of strategic partnership.
“To ensure the timely and full implementation of the agreements reached, both governments have been granted the appropriate authority and specific mandates. At the same time, the business environment has been provided with freedom and favorable conditions for active engagement, which has led to an increase in bilateral visits and meetings between Uzbek and Pakistani entrepreneurs”, - noted the head of the diplomatic mission.
During the forum, participants were presented with investment opportunities and existing business incentives in Uzbekistan, as well as information on proposed infrastructure projects in sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and construction. Questions from Pakistani entrepreneurs were also addressed.
Forum participants highlighted the importance of expanding the participation of entrepreneurs and the presence of goods from both countries in each other’s markets, as well as the need to establish mechanisms for conducting trade through electronic commerce platforms. They also noted that the enormous potential in the trade and economic sphere between the two countries has yet to be fully realized, emphasizing the significance of establishing joint ventures in sectors such as agriculture, light industry, leather and footwear production, pharmaceuticals, and metallurgy. The discussion further addressed the need to develop industrial cooperation and create logistics clusters.
As part of the economic event, agreements were reached on organizing a business mission for a delegation of major Karachi-based trade and industrial companies, scheduled to visit Uzbekistan in February 2026, as well as on the construction of the “Uzbekistan-Pakistan Industrial Zone” in the Khorezm region in cooperation with the Korangi Association of Commerce and Industry.
In line with the forum’s program, B2B meetings were organized between representatives of the business communities of the two countries.
As a result of the negotiations, more than 20 memoranda of understanding on mutual cooperation were signed.
