SAINT PETERSBURG, September 24. /Dunyo IA/. An article dedicated to the Russian premiere of George Frideric Handel’s opera “Tamerlano” has been published in the autumn issue of the leading Russian magazine “Tourism and Culture Industry”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Publication emphasizes that the large-scale international project, which brought together more than 160 artists, was presented by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation at the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) Cultural Festival “St. Petersburg Seasons”. The production was directed and its visual environment created by renowned Italian director Stefano Poda in collaboration with Paolo Gianni Cei.

Publication provides a detailed account of the international ensemble of performers, with the leading role performed by People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Zhenisbek Piyazov. The production also featured Spanish tenor Juan Sancho, Argentine soprano Veronica Cangemi and Uzbek actress Yulduz Rajabova. The participation of the Honored Choral Ensemble of Uzbekistan, the “Uzbegim” group and the Folk Instruments Orchestra conducted by Abdukarim Ashirmatov added particular scale to the production.

Particular emphasis is placed on the unique synthesis of musical traditions: Handel’s 1724 score was performed in a new interpretation by composer Kirill Richter, incorporating Uzbek national instruments and accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan under the direction of Alibek Kabdurakhmanov.

As “Tourism and Culture Industry” notes, following the world premiere in Tashkent and performances at “Dubai Opera” in the UAE and the “Musikverein” in Austria, the St. Petersburg premiere successfully continued the project’s international tour, highlighting the role of culture as an important instrument of global dialogue.
