BISHKEK, July 30 /Dunyo IA/. An article examining the current state and prospects of Uzbekistan–Kyrgyzstan economic cooperation has been published in the leading Kyrgyz newspaper “Slovo Kyrgyzstana”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Article notes that relations between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have in recent years become one of the key pillars of regional cooperation in Central Asia. According to the author, the bilateral agenda has been steadily evolving beyond the framework of traditional good-neighbourly relations, assuming the character of a comprehensive strategic economic partnership.

It emphasizes that a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation is provided by regular high-level political dialogue, the effective work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, as well as the steady expansion of interregional ties. Particular attention is given to the upcoming first Uzbekistan–Kyrgyzstan Regions Forum, to be held in Uzbekistan, which is expected to provide additional impetus for the further development of cross-border cooperation, trade and entrepreneurship.

Author highlights the positive dynamics of bilateral trade, which reached nearly US$1.2 billion by the end of 2025, marking a 36.4 per cent increase. The growth in mutual trade continued in January–May 2026, reflecting the further strengthening of economic ties between the two countries.

Article also examines measures aimed at implementing the Programme for Increasing Mutual Trade for 2024–2030, developing trade and logistics infrastructure, expanding the activities of trade houses and the Termez International Trade Centre, as well as establishing new joint manufacturing facilities.

As strategic priorities for further cooperation, the author identifies the implementation of energy projects, including the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1, the development of transport and logistics corridors, the improvement of cross-border infrastructure, and the expansion of the activities of the Uzbek–Kyrgyz Development Fund.

In conclusion, article notes that the consistent expansion of trade, economic, investment and industrial cooperation demonstrates that Uzbekistan–Kyrgyzstan relations are advancing to a qualitatively new level. The steady growth in mutual trade, the implementation of joint manufacturing projects, and the strengthening of transport and energy connectivity are creating a solid foundation for a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership between the two brotherly countries.
