“The Indian Express” Newspaper: Uzbekistan emerges as a new destination for global investment

NEW DELHI, June 17. /Dunyo IA/.The Indian Express”, one of India's oldest and most influential daily newspapers, has dedicated an extensive article to the opening of the 5th Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF-2026), characterizing it as a pivotal event that showcases Uzbekistan's investment breakthrough, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The publication’s correspondent, Harikishan Sharma, who travelled to Tashkent specifically to provide on-site coverage of TIIF-2026, gave a detailed account of the forum’s extensive program.

As the newspaper notes, preliminary sessions and the exhibition “Discover the Industrial and Investment Potential of Uzbekistan” took place on Tuesday, while the official opening ceremony, featuring the participation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, is scheduled for Wednesday.

Particular attention of 'The Indian Express' is focused on the series of bilateral meetings held by the head of our state. The newspaper reports on the negotiations of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev with President of Albania Bajram Begaj, Prime Ministers of Tajikistan and Belarus Kohir Rasulzoda and Aleksandr Turchin Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev, as well as the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov.

“The parties agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, logistics, culture and tourism”, publication quotes the outcomes of the meetings, emphasizing that the conversations were dedicated to strengthening strategic partnership and expanding practical interaction.

According to the Indian publication, the primary investment focus of the forum will center on two flagship projects of Uzbekistan: the Tashkent International Financial Center, established by Presidential Decree in March 2026, and New Tashkent - a city being constructed across an area of nearly 20,000 hectares, where more than 100 projects of various scales are already being implemented.

“The Indian Express” accents its attention on Uzbekistan's impressive macroeconomic dynamics, reporting that our country's GDP growth in 2025 reached 7.7%, while the volume of foreign direct investment surged from 4 billion dollars in 2017 to 42 billion dollars in 2025, representing a tenfold increase.

The publication also recalls the records of last year's forum, which brought together more than 8,000 participants from 97 countries, where the total value of signed agreements reached 30.5 billion US dollars. According to the author, this confirms the status of TIIF as the primary investment platform of Central Asia and creates high expectations for the current, fifth consecutive forum.
