CAIRO, October 13. /Dunyo IA/. Egypt’s “Sada Elbalad English” information agency has published an article on water security in the Turkic world and economic reforms in Central Asia, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The first article examines efforts to strengthen cooperation among Turkic states in the field of water security, mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure the efficient use of water resources.
Author identifies water scarcity, shrinking glaciers, droughts and growing population needs as common strategic challenges facing the entire Turkic world. Particular attention is given to developing cooperation on environmental sustainability and water resources management within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States.
Article also highlights the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan. In particular, it notes that between 2020 and 2025, 1,870 kilometres of canals were lined with concrete, water-saving technologies were introduced across 3.2 million hectares and digital water accounting and monitoring systems are being developed.
The second article examines how the strengthening of political trust and good-neighbourly relations among Central Asian states in recent years has contributed to the development of economic cooperation.
It emphasizes that the policy of openness, pragmatism and good-neighbourliness pursued by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev since 2017 has played an important role in strengthening regional cooperation.
Among the significant outcomes of this process, the article highlights the regular holding of Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the expansion of trade and investment ties among countries in the region.
Particular attention is given to the importance of transport and logistics routes for regional economic integration. Azerbaijan’s accession to the regional cooperation format, along with projects such as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, is expanding the region’s connectivity with the Caucasus, Türkiye, Europe and other Asian markets.
Article also examines Uzbekistan’s ties with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan in the areas of trade, investment, energy and industrial cooperation.
According to the author, the next stage of cooperation should focus on moving beyond simple commodity exchange towards establishing joint ventures, developing regional value chains and manufacturing finished products.
