• 120CAIRO, October 12. /Dunyo IA/. Egyptian media outlets have published a series of articles covering the address delivered by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Turkmenistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
In their reports, “Elbalad”, “Maspero” and “Gate Ahram” note that, amid global changes and rising tensions, the Uzbek leader called for strengthening trust and coordinating positions. According to these publications, Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed a gradual shift from simple trade in goods to the joint development of integrated value chains, the removal of technical barriers, mutual recognition of certificates of conformity and broader access to public procurement. They also highlight his proposal to introduce a notification and consultation mechanism before restrictions are imposed on food and fertiliser exports.
As “Almontasaf” reports, the President of Uzbekistan commended Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth and marked the 35th anniversary of the CIS. The publication draws attention to proposals to link special economic zones into a unified network, establish integrated logistics centres and create a common transport information system, as well as Uzbekistan’s support for declaring 2029 the Year of Transport Connectivity in the CIS. Other initiatives highlighted by the publication include developing a long-term concept for energy connectivity, preparing a concept for cooperation in the circular economy and the efficient use of resources, expanding the activities of the Interstate Foundation for Humanitarian Cooperation, and organising a Forum on Cultural Policy and Creative Industries and the CIS Youth Forum in Khiva. The proposal to establish a joint CIS contact centre to combat cross-border cybercrime is also noted.
Publication “Al Diplomacy”, in its analytical article “From Ashgabat to Bukhara”, examines the address as a vision for transforming the CIS from an organisation bringing together countries with a shared history into a platform for economic, technological and humanitarian integration. The article emphasises that the real test of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship will be its ability to translate the proposed initiatives into concrete projects with clear timelines, assigned responsibilities and mechanisms for evaluating results. It also highlights the symbolic significance of Bukhara being chosen to host the next meeting of the Council.
Publications “Eldameer” and “Alawstelalamianews” quote President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as stressing that economic integration and industrial cooperation remain important foundations for stability and development. They also highlight his proposal to link the Commonwealth countries’ special economic zones into a unified network. The publications note that Uzbekistan will assume the CIS chairmanship next year and that the next meeting of the Council will be held in Bukhara.
