Uzbekistan initiates USD 120 million toll highway linking Urgench and Khiva to advance regional infrastructure

KYIV, February 26. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan has launched the implementation of the country’s first toll motorway project, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the Ukrainian Center for Transport Strategies (CTS).

The new road will be constructed in Khorezm Region, connecting the cities of Urgench and Khiva. Total investment in the project is estimated at USD 120 million. Once operational, travel time between Urgench and Khiva will be reduced from one hour to 17 minutes.

“The length of the four-lane asphalt-concrete road will be 35 kilometres, - “CTS” reports. - Its projected capacity will exceed 20,000 vehicles per day”.

The project also includes the construction of 17 bridges, 8 overpasses, one tunnel and five specialized crossings. Traffic management will be controlled through AI-based digital systems capable of vehicle identification.
