Portuguese Executive appointed to Head Uzbekistan’s Korzinka Supermarket Chain

WARSAW, September 8. /Dunyo IA/.  Portuguese national Pedro Martinho has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Uzbek retail chain “Korzinka” after 30 years of professional experience in Poland, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with the Polish portal “xyz.pl”.

Pedro Martinho, who previously served on the management board of the “Eurocash” Group and was interim Chief Executive Officer of “Frisco”, has relocated to Tashkent, where he assumed his new position on September 2nd.

He described Uzbekistan as one of the world’s most attractive emerging markets, highlighting its dynamic economy, young and growing population, and rising consumer expectations. According to him, the country’s development reminded him of Poland in the 1990s.

Zafar Khashimov, founder and majority shareholder of “Korzinka”, noted that Pedro Martinho’s more than 30 years of experience in developing retail companies in rapidly growing markets would be an important factor in the next stage of the chain’s development.

Founded in 1996, “Korzinka” is now one of Uzbekistan’s leading supermarket chains and employs around 16,000 people. The company operates supermarkets, smaller-format stores and “Korzinka Go” e-commerce platform.
